5 Tips for Overcoming Gym Anxiety
It’s the start of the New Year and you’re ready jumpstart your fitness journey! But there’s just one little problem, walking into the weight room or trying a new studio fitness class can be intimidating and a little bit nerve wracking. So, we’ve pulled together our 5 tips to help you feel more confident next time you come to the club.
1. Start small.
If the thought of being a crowded weight room feels overwhelming, try finding a quiet, more private corner of the club where you can complete most of your workout. There are great full body workouts that you can do with a couple dumbbells or kettlebells. This can help build your confidence and ease you into the idea of working out in public.
2. Find a supportive community.
Surrounding yourself with like-minded people who are supportive and encouraging can make a big difference in your experience. Consider joining a studio fitness class to help you feel more supported both by the community and instructors.
3. Set achievable goals.
Rather than focusing on trying to meet some arbitrary standard of "perfection," set specific, achievable goals for yourself. This can help you stay motivated and feel more confident in your abilities. You’ll get there before you know it!
4. Remember everyone must start somewhere.
It's easy to feel self-conscious when you see others working out with ease but remember everyone must start somewhere. Everyone was a beginner at some point, and it is okay to take your time and progress at your own pace.
5. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
If you're feeling stuck or unsure, don't be afraid to ask a team member for help. They're here to help you and make sure you feel comfortable and safe while working out.
Overcoming fears around using new equipment takes time and patience, but it's possible. By joining a studio fitness class, starting small, and asking for help, you can feel more confident and comfortable in a new environment.
Good luck!
