5 Low-Impact Workouts To Start Your Fitness Journey

Whether you’re dedicating to a fitness journey for the first time or returning for another go after a long break or injury, let’s start out by saying: we’re so proud of you!

We know it can be tempting to jump into HIIT classes or try to deadlift your old PR, but going too hard too soon can not only lead to burnout, it can also lead to injury. So, take this time to try new things, find what gets you excited to work out, and treat your body with the kindness it deserves (which, BTW, means making sure you get enough rest and recovery). Try these low-impact workouts to get started.


 

1. Barre & Pilates Classes

Barre and Pilates are awesome low-impact workouts that still offer a major fitness challenge (but don’t worry, your instructor will offer modifications on the toughest exercises!) You’ll see improvements in strength, stability and balance when you add these classes to your regular workout schedule. Find Barre & Pilates classes.

 

2. Aqua Classes

Ever tried an aqua class? If you haven’t, make a reservation to try this unique workout experience. All of our aqua classes take place in the pool, so it’s easy on your joints. Aqua is perfect for people new to exercise, recovering from an injury, or anyone who wants a workout in the water! 3. Dance Classes

Cardio can be tough. We know even our super-fun cardio classes like Cycle (which you should totally try!) can feel intimidating when you’re first getting started. But don’t worry, we have a solution: dance classes like Zumba and U-JAM don’t even feel like working out at all—it just feels like a party!

 

4. Elliptical Machine

Not sure if studio classes are your thing? That’s cool. Head to the cardio theater and give the elliptical machine a try. This machine offers many of the benefits of running without hurting your joints from all of the pounding on the pavement.

 

5. Walking

We know what you’re thinking—does walking even count as a workout? Um, YES. Walking has huge health benefits, including weight management, improved mood, and boosted balance and coordination, according to the Mayo Clinic. Walking is an awesome way to spend your rest days (the days you aren’t coming to the club), and regularly getting your steps in will help you reach your health results faster. Or, if you’re looking for low-impact cardio, walking on the treadmill is a great workout, especially since you can change the incline and speed.
