5 Safety Tips For Kids At The Pool
Summer is here! School’s out, and you and your little ones are ready for some fun in the sun. We’re excited to have you join us for family swim at the club, and want to make sure everyone stays safe. Here are some important tips from an ex-lifeguard to keep your kids safe in the pool.
1. Sign Up for Swim Lessons
Swimming is a fun summer activity, but it’s also a safety skill that can save a life. For that reason, it’s best that kids are taught by swim instructors. Learning strokes properly will help kids become effective and efficient swimmers; incorrect methods can lead to a higher drowning risk. Swim lessons also build up their confidence in the water, so summers at the pool can be more fun!
Swim lessons are currently offered at 10 In-Shape locations, available for members only. Click here for more information and to sign up for swim lessons.
2. When in doubt, use a life jacket
If your child isn’t a strong swimmer, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. But remember, a life vest is no substitute for parental supervision.
3. Always watch your kids
You always need to keep an eye on your kids at the pool: even if your kids are strong swimmers, and even if there’s a lifeguard on duty. An emergency can happen at any time, and a few seconds could make all the difference.
4. No Diving
Most public pools aren’t deep enough for safe diving, even in the deep end.
5. Please walk
It can get slippery outside the pool and running can lead to serious injuries. Please make sure you and the kids walk outside the pool.
