Your Post-Workout Skincare Guide

In-Shape | 07 Jan, 2022 | Wellness Tips & Trends | Return|

You’ve probably heard of ways to take care of your body post-workout like stretching or refueling with nutritious foods, but how often does skincare come to mind after your last set? Caring for your skin is a great way to help you feel your best, so don't overlook taking care of it. Check out these tips to guide you in your post-workout skincare routine.

Step 1: Hit The Sauna

Making time for a trip to the sauna after your workout can do you wonders, not only for your muscle recovery but skin as well. A session in the sauna has many benefits for your skin. Naturally, your body will sweat due to the hot environment. Did you know sweating can actually be helpful to your skin at times? It turns out sweating can help to release impurities in your skin and shed skin cells. Sweating allows you to clean out your pores, and the impact can be rejuvenating.

Step 2: Cleanse and Clean

It’s important to take steps to clean your skin properly after a sweaty workout. You’ll want to wash away any bacteria from your skin that may have built up when exercising, and do your best to hydrate your skin. After completing your workout you’ll want to wash your face, but it’s important you’re not too rough on your skin. Avoid using water that’s too hot, and use a gentle cleanser. If you have any blemishes, you can also try using an acne cream to take care of them and prevent future breakouts.

Step 3: Incorporate Foods That Promote Healthy Skin

Some foods can make a positive impact on your skin health. After a workout, try combining nutrient-rich fruits, veggies, and protein in a protein shake. Pre-made shakes are ok, but making your own means you can incorporate foods that help promote healthy skin, which will leave you feeling replenished and recharged. Try blending in some of these, your skin will thank you:

  • Avocados
  • Broccoli
  • Flax Seeds
  • Kiwi
  • Walnuts

Step 4: Try Some Face Yoga

You’ve probably never even heard of THIS kind of Yoga, but it can be super relaxing after a workout, and it turns out it can have some benefits for your skin, too!

Face yoga involves specific facial exercises to help isolate and target muscles that can ultimately help increase your circulation. Try incorporating some exercises that focus on:

  • Jaw Line
  • Forehead
  • Neck
  • Cheeks

You can find some examples of face yoga on YouTube or follow along with a face yoga app. Not only can these exercises help bolster the appearance of glowing skin, but they can be quite relaxing and help you unwind.

Whatever your post-workout routine entails, don't neglect your skin. Don’t forget to try these steps next time you’re at the club.
